Head of the Stroke Unit at Val de Hebron Hospital in Barcelona and current President of the World Stroke...
Siemens Healthineers introduced its Mobile Stroke Unit, which provides on-site diagnosis and treatment.
Barcelona, October 21 (European Press)-
Carrots Molina Carrot Molina, the current president of the Val D'Behon Hospital and World Stroke Congress 2025, emphasized the importance of timing and the importance of healing: "Every minute, every minute."
Speaking to the press this Tuesday, he also warned of the increase in the number of strokes among people under 40 years of age during the last decade and highlighted the impact of diabetes and obesity in this regard.
Proteotype prototype
A doctor presented the "Mobile Stroke Unit" (MSU) from Siemens Healthineers, capable of diagnosing and treating a stroke right where it happened, which is presented in Spain as part of the World Stroke Congress.
Molina said that "it's not just technology, it's a great idea";It's not just a scanner inside the ambulance, but a complete communication system that allows for quick and accurate diagnosis and allows for quick drug use, according to his statement.
Currently, these ambulances are not used anywhere in southern Europe, but although they are in other countries on the continent, results from Siemens Healthineers have documented a reduction in mortality at 90 days and an improvement in complete recovery at 3 months (more than half recovered compared to 43% for conventional care).
'The Golden Hour'
With this system, the time between the onset of symptoms and the start of treatment could be reduced by "more than 30 minutes", shortening the so-called "golden hour", the key period after a stroke.
"If we can treat more patients for more hours in this hour, we can improve the function of parfosene once it is administered in the intravenous system in the sectors that will be reduced.
Molina noted that Catalonia has a "very strong" pre-hospital care system and that the implementation of resources such as mobile stroke units can literally have a big impact.
He stressed the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, following a Mediterranean diet - which they "abandoned" - and doing physical activity to avoid high blood pressure and diabetes.
"We have a big challenge right now, which is to identify these patients, diabetes, obesity, through physical activity, to treat and reverse these symptoms through new drugs to fight diabetes and obesity, and to reduce the likelihood of complications as much as possible."
Molina highlighted the importance of being attentive to the symptoms of a stroke, such as loss of strength on one side of the body, arm, leg or face, as well as speech problems, and stressed that 112 should be called "as soon as possible."
World Congress on Stroke
in Barcelona 22.-24.11.the World Stroke Congress 2025 will return to Europe after 20 years: "It will return to the heart of European innovation, which is Barcelona and Catalonia. We are very proud of it. More than 3,000 participants from all over the world will present scientific innovations."
